|Homework: Until now, you’ve been doing work with the Two Powers in ritual, meditation, and on your own. At this point, you should have a fairly clear understanding of what you’re doing, how it builds a cosmos, and have a strong experience of the Powers involved. In light of that, this week your assignment will be to write the final essay on the Two Powers and finish one of the requirements.|
Meditation is beneficial for mind, body and soul. It is an essential practice to manage stress, negative emotions, and to get rid of unwanted depressing energies. Meditation is not only a way to relax; it can also be used as powerful mental exercise, providing a workout for deepening our consciousness of the connection that we have with the spiritual beings. Meditation can create a doorway to astral planes, making an easier relationship with the Nature Spirits, the Ancestors and the Deities. Grounding and centering have always been very important elements in my spiritual practice. Before a ritual or any activity related to divination, I’ll always plan some time to relax, to do a meditation, or simply to prepare my mind, body and spirit to enter a state on consciousness required for my practice. While doing a meditation, I always start with visualization. This is the one thing I learned with guided meditations. These voice-guided meditations make you explore your capability to imagine a new world around you. Learning to visualize goes with learning to concentrate, creating self-discipline, developing an active and controlled imagination, meditation, focus, astral projection and dream working – all important facets to the development of any magickal ability. At first, I must admit that I struggled before being comfortable in visualization or concentration. It was hard to simply let my imagination goes freely, without thinking about the things I had to do in the mundane world. When you work with visualization techniques, it becomes easier to eliminate those intrusive thoughts, and to simply let our mind do the work.
The Two Powers is a perfect way to ground and center ourselves, as we connect with the three realms. This is a technique of meditation that makes us mentally connect with the Sea (the Underworld, the domain of the Ancestors) and the Sky (the Upperworld, the domain of the Deities) while we are physically on the Land (the world as we know it), surrounded by the Otherworld (the domain of the Nature Spirits). The visuals are easier to obtain when I do that exercise. I now picture myself in the center of a small planet, my feet touching the grass and the deep water below. I also visualize my hair floating in the air and touching the sky. I can imagine the wind, the sunlight on my skin and the clouds moving in the sky. I also picture my feet morphing into roots and growing in the earth below me. When I do this meditation technique, I feel as being an integral part with the Earth, strongly connected by my feet and my hair. I become a living tree: my feet are the roots, my hair become branches, and my whole body is transformed into an imaginary tree trunk. To me, this is the best representation my understanding of the Two Powers. The Two Powers are the Sky and the Sea, linking by the Land at the very center. It connects us with the Deities, the Ancestors and the Nature Spirits, as a perfect wholiness, or the unified pursuit health, harmony, happiness into a spiritual journey of self-discovery.
