|Homework: In your Dedicant Notebook, discuss what you felt when you were experiencing Nature. Did you have problems focusing? Did you have trouble finding your spot? Try drawing a map from your house or your office to this spot, but don’t include street names or man-made objects; instead, use natural landmarks to remind yourself how to get there in the future. Were you able to hear things you’ve never heard before? Did you catch a glimpse of the Earth Mother playing with children in the park?|
To me, it is easier to connect with nature during spring, summer or fall, but I understand how much nature is everywhere, even during winter. The white snow looks so pure and clean and I love the fact that snowflakes form in a wide variety of complicated six-branch shapes, making them unique! Yes, it’s colder and it’s harder to stay for a long time outside because of this factor, but with warm clothes, it is possible to connect with nature without too much inconvenience.
My spot is located in my city, distanced by 6.5 km from my home (10 minutes in car). I had this spot in 2013 when I first subscribed to ADF, then I moved in another town for 11 months, and came back living to the city I was in 2013. I’m quite happy to be near my spot again and I plan to visit it more often since I re-subscribed to ADF as I really need to reconnect with nature. I spent the last year as a hermit, studying in books instead of walking outside and learn from nature, and I know now I much I did miss the feeling of being surrounded by the energies of plants, rocks, breeze, and by the sounds of birds or animals. My current spot is in the middle of a small forest grove in a park, and I always felt as I was surrounded by faeries and gnomes. On the map below, I encircled an area that I nicknamed “Faeries Realm” to show where I can feel the energy coming from the Nature Spirits.
I’ll now answers the questions asked inside the “ADF Dedicant Path: Through Wheel of the Year” working guide:
Discuss what you felt when you were experiencing Nature.
Every time I’m in nature, I can feel the tranquility and the serenity. I’m always under the impression that the trees or others entities looks at me.
Did you have problems focusing?
No. Focusing into the woods is something I always find easy to do. That place is quiet and I’m even able to meditate while walking in the trails.
Did you have trouble finding your spot?
Not at all! There is a huge rock that marks the spot; it’s an easy way to remember where it is.
Try drawing a map from your house or your office to this spot, but don’t include street names or man-made objects; instead, use natural landmarks to remind yourself how to get there in the future.
Were you able to hear things you’ve never heard before?
I was able to hear distant sounds from cars coming from the street, but I tried to focus more on sounds coming from the nature. Today, I heard the wind through the leaves and the leaves cracking under my footsteps.
Did you catch a glimpse of the Earth Mother playing with children in the park?
During my journey to my spot, I found a pine cone on a trail. As it was the only one I saw during my walk, I took it and considered as it was a gift from the Kindreds. Because I had nothing to give as offering, I chose to pour some of my coffee on the spot where I took the pine cone. On my way back, I saw four white-tailed deer (odocoileus virginianus) and one of them came near me and stayed during some minutes. It was a nice experience!
