I held my solitary Samhain ritual on November 1, 2015 from 5:45pm to 6:30pm. The location for the rite was a special dedicated room in my apartment. The ritual followed the ADF core order and was Celtic Irish in nature as I am devoted to the Tuatha Dé Danann.
After the introduction of the rite, I proceeded to the purification part of the ritual using the sacred hallows followed by a liturgy to honor Earth Mother. I then enunciated my statement of purpose, which was to honor Cailleach, the Lady of the dark season. For the grounding and centering part, I did the Two Powers meditation, helped by an audio recording from Ian Corrigan. During the recreation of the Cosmos, I prepared my offerings and completed the cosmology by honoring the Celtic cosmology: Sky, Sea and Land. I opened the gates by inviting the gatekeeper, Manannán. I then made my offerings: red wine “La Cuvée Mythique” for the Deities, Té Bheag scotch for the Ancestors, bird’s seeds to the Nature Spirits and Mother Earth and copal resin incense to the Gatekeeper.
The omen was cast with my Green Witch Tarot:
- Eight of Pentacles: Stop and examine what you put your energy into, produce quality, not quantity.
- Temperance: Take control of your life and practice moderation. Stay in balance!
- Two of Pentacles: You can triumph between two choices if you remain flexible and can adapt.
Finally, I thanked the Kindreds, and closed the gates. I think the ritual went well, but I must admit I was tired and I didn’t feel the energy I’m usually feeling during a High Day festival. I need to practice my meditation techniques. I’m also missing the flow of combined energy obtained in a grove and I’m thinking of joining a group soon.
